South Specific 2026 – first time at the festival

Passers-by is a narrative space – an art installation inspired by the sociological research Divided by Freedom: Czech society 30 years later. Instead of charts and statistics, it presents six scaled-down apartments, each representing a different social class in today’s Czech Republic. Visitors can step inside, open drawers, read letters, explore personal belongings, and gradually uncover the stories of their inhabitants. Using principles of narrative design and drawing inspiration from video games and immersive installations, the work invites a new perspective on “the others” – free of prejudice, told through space and personal experience.

The Pomezí Theater was born out of an informal collaboration between Lukáš Brychta, Kateřina Součková, and Štěpán Tretiag during the preparation of the immersive production Letec – l'Aviateur in 2014. They subsequently developed their experience with combining visual installations, acting, and audience freedom in the Pomezí project, which also gave rise to the ensemble itself. Gradually, a stable team of collaborators and production facilities formed around the core group of creators.

The complete festival program, including the Opening Weekend, will be on sale from March 3, 2026. The South Specific Festival is part of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028. The festival is held under the auspices of the mayor of the statutory city of České Budějovice.
