Denisa Hamarová

Denisa Hamarová studied voice at the Conservatory in Bratislava and subsequently at the Academy of Performing Arts with Ľuba Baricová. While still studying she started to collaborate with the Chamber Opera in Bratislava, the Opera of the State Theatre in Košice, where she rendered Verdi’s Maddalena (Rigoletto), further with the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, where she sang Bellini’s Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi). In 2001 she was given a permanent engagement at the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre, for which she has enacted a number of roles, among them for instance Verdi’s Fenena (Nabucco) and Amneris (Aida), Mozart’s Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Rossini’s Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans, Bartók’s Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle), Strauss’ Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Mussorgsky’s Marina Mniszek (Boris Godunov) and others.

In 2002 she made her debut on the stage of the Prague State Opera in the role of Gertrude in Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas. Besides, she collaborates with the National Theatre in Prague, where she rendered Omar in the minimalist The Death of Klinghoffer by John Adams, Verdi’s Amneris and Ježibaba / the Foreign Princess in Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák.

Her guest performances include the roles of Mešjanovka (Foerster - Eva) at the opera festival in Wexford, the role of Hansel (Humperdinck - Hansel and Gretel), which she sang on her tour of Japan, and the title role of Handel’s Xerxes, which she sang in Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
